Dear Friends,

The Miami Years were some of the best years of my life.

One day while visiting my brother at Purdue,
I ran into one of his fraternity brothers.

In case you were wondering...Beta Theta Pie.

Seems he was a marketing rep for Playboy.

Well, tell me more...

When I got to Miami,
I called them up and said,
"I'm your man..."

At the time there was no rep at Miami,
but they said no reason there couldn't.

The first few projects were
pretty mundane.

A record shop survey for the Playboy Records,
Barbi Benton and others...

Then a Jose Cuervo Promotion,
lots of signs and brochures to put up around campus.

Like I said,
pretty mundane...

Then one day there was a knock on my dorm room door.

It was a truck driver from some freight company.

Seems he had a load of Cigars for me.

You couldn't believe it.

Case after case...over 60,000 in all.

In case (no pun intended) you were wondering,
that's over 4 and a half miles.

They were practically falling out the door.

The room was 10 x 10 on a good day,
but somehow I got them in.

Next came a call from Chicago.

Did I get the Cigars???

Well, yea, but what the hell am I supposed to do with them.

Seems Eddie Adams was going to retire,
so the promotion was to conduct on campus balloting
for a new Muriel Cigar Girl.

Does the name Susan Anton ring a bell??

The plan called for stations all over campus...

Oh boy,
sounded like an awful lot of work to me.

And then the Angels sang...

For some reason Ohio Law prohibited the balloting,
so the promotion was off...well kinda.

So now what am I supposed to do?

Guess I could give one away to the butcher,
the baker and the candlestick maker,
but then I'd still have 59,997 left.

What to do? What to do?

Well needless to say,
Oxford had plenty of cigars.

They were all over campus
and even showed up in the Press Box
for Miami football games.

They still might have some for all I know.

But that still left 20,000 to go.

So off to Columbus and United Press International.

They ran the photo nationwide,
and shortly there after
the cigars somehow turned up in the State House Press Room
as well as the Press Box at Ohio State.

After that it was Plop Plop Fiz Fiz...

20,000 Alka Seltzer's.

Sounds like a Pizza Eating Contest to Me,
then off the the Miami University Dinning Halls.

Just kidding...

Thus my humble beginnings in the world fast cars and pretty ladies.

Always made sure to get the bunny in the shot.

Even after all these years,
never did met Hef,
but did get to meet lots of Playmates
and even asked Patti McGuire out on a date once.

You remember...
Playmate of the Year 1978??

She married Jimmy Conners.

But if all goes well and I get to LA in the fire truck,
think it might make for a fun little detour.
