Well,
today is Flag Day,
the 226th Anniversary to be exact.

And on this Day in 1777 Congress,

"Resolved, that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes,
alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars
white in a blue field representing a new constellation."

While there are no surviving examples,
this is thought to be the
"First American Flag".

Note the 6 pointed Stars.

In keeping with the Spirit of that Resolution,
President Bush issued a
Flag Day and National Flag Week Proclamation,

However,
the most famous Flag Day speech
was given in 1914 by

Franklin K. Lane,
Secretary of the Interior.

While Secretary Lane speaks to the Individual,
President Coolidge speaks to the Soul.
