Aspen Elementary

Kids,

We just got back from the fire when the phone rang...

Was I still going to visit with the 3rd and 5th grade class???

I checked the time and said I'd be there in 45 minutes.

Little did I know that moments later they would order 7 large pizzas for the crew...

As I walked out the door, one of the fellows said, "Hurry back, the pizzas will be here shortly."

So the plan was to make a short visit to Aspen and get back in time for a late lunch and photo before everyone took off.

Like I said, "The best laid plans of Mice and Men."

It was now 1:30 and I checked in with the principal and teacher...

I went back outside to get ready when they began to arrive...

And arrive they did...class after class.

How many could their be???

So much for a short visit...

I gave a 10 to 15 minute talk, then we put up the flag.

It was quite a sight...

The class began to recite the Pledge of Allegience.

Afterward, you could have heard a pin drop.

I showed them the lock of Mr. Lincoln's hair and began to answer questions.

In spite of the cold the kids wanted to stay and enjoy the moment.

I gave Tyler, aka Abe Lincoln from a class project, a stove pipe hat
and took his picture holding the lock of Mr.Lincoln's hair.

Note the penny Statue in the background...

Aspen Elementary has promised boatload of pennies.

Have you, "Put in YOUR Two Cents" yet???

He even got to sign his name on the fire engine.

Clancy was intersted in the Presidential Seal, having just studied it in class.

He got his picture taken as well.

Many wanted to sit in the cab, so I took pictures and let them sound the air horn and the siren.

That completed, I asked for help in lowering the flag...

Mr. Sisson's whole 5th grade class volunteered and offered to help fold it as well.

Talk about team work...

I watched in amazement as they went about their mission.

And then there was Clancy, he patiently waited in the cold wanting to escort me back into the school.

I signed an Inaugural Plate for the class and asked them to sign the guest book.

Guess, I must be a pretty "Cool Guy"...lol

This inturn led to their request for my autograph as well.

I signed one for each on a variety of items ranging from regular slips of paper,
to a multidue of notebook covers, and even a water bottle.

Here is the class picture...complete with associated memoribilia.

After shaking hands and saying goodbye there were promises of not washing hands for weeks-
less the "Coolness" might wear off.

Needless to say, I'll not soon forget Aspen Elementary...One Cool School-One Cool Class!!!

Warmest Regards,
