Mr. Lincoln Visits
The Mormon Tabernacle Choir

Friends,

I arrived in Salt Lake City around 5:30 on Saturday evening.
Having been here for over a week three years ago,
I was familiar with the right places to go and right things to do.
At the top of the list, is of course-The Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
I called the Choir Hotline to make sure I didn't miss the Sunday Morning Service.

When I arrived at the Tabernacle, I was surprised to find it closed...
How could this be???
After a few moments of consternation, an older gentleman approached and said,
"The Tabernacle was closed for remodeling."
"Oh man...I've come all this way and it's closed?"

Not to fret, he said,
"The Choir will be performing across the street at the Confrence Center."

If you've ever been to the Tabernacle you know how beautiful it is...
Picture that and then some, the Confrence Center is unbeliveable.
While it lacks the ambiance of the Tabernacle which was built in the 1850's,
it has its own sense of being.

Modern no doubt, yet very Powerful.

I made my way down the center isle and settled in maybe 10 rows back from the stage.
There were actually two performances...
One a dress rehersal at 9:00 and the actual TV Broadcast at 9:30.

As the performace ended, I remembered the Tabernacle Choir had also been in the Inaugural Parade.
Having brought Mr. Lincoln along for the Perfomance,
I thought the Musical Director and Conductor might enjoy meeting him.
I approached one of the Ushers and made my request.

And the rest as they say is History...
