The 100 Foot Club
Like I said, the real fun didn't start
until early the next morning.
Overnight, news of the Truck had spread like wildfire...
When I awoke, a crowd had gathered at the station,
so it only made sense to raise the Flag, take pictures and
have everyone sign the Guest Book.

Under normal circumstanses,
I generally raise the Flag only 30 feet or so
in order to get as much in the picture as possible.
Well, one thing lead to another,
and soon a request was made to
extend the ladder the full 100 feet.
Once asked, the answer is always, "YES"
unless there is a safety issue at hand,
ie, wires, wind or rain.
Again, one thing lead to another,

and soon Firemen were making their way to the top.

Here is the first brave soul to enter, "The 100 Foot Club".
There were five more to follow,

making a total of 6 to join,
"The Prestigious Club".
As the third Fireman made his way up the ladder,
you could see the Chief start to sweat.
How would he ever keep the respect of his Department,
if he didn't make the perilous climb to the top???
About 50 feet up, he looked down to see if that was far enough,
but was somehow pursuaded to complete the Journey.
I'm proud of you, Chief!!!
If you note the photo of "The Club",
there are only 5 members present excluding myself.

The Sixth member,
is in a "Club" all by himself,
"The Over 60 Club".
Quite an achievment, don't you think???
After all the excitment,
I took the Local Lincoln Highway representative
for a spin around the block,

Fire Helmet and all!!
Our duty done,

thus began "The Fireman's Ritual".

Hat's off to you Chief and your wonderful Department.
I'll never forget my time in Carroll!!!
