America's Fire Truck

Kids,

About halfway across Nebraska is Kearney,
home of The Great Platte River Road Arch.

It took several days,
but I finally make it out to The Great Arch.

The date was October 31, 2001
the 88th Anniversary of the Dedication.

Not taking the occasion lightly,
a Press Release was drafted and
a call was made to the local TV station.

While setting up for the shoot,
a gentleman wandered over and introduced himself.

He was from near Lancaster, PA on the Lincoln Highway.

You could tell he was quite taken with the truck.

We talked for a bit, then he said,
"You know this is AMERICA's Fire Truck".

The conversation ended and then he was gone,
but I'll never forget his words.

"America's Fire Truck..."
Hum...
You might have something there.

The TV Crew arrived and the shoot began.

That's Kari, Ace Reporter for NTV in the Bunker Gear.

Note the "Lincoln Hat" on the Cameraman.

Finished outside,
we went inside to shoot the Lincoln Highway display.

This is a replica of the Lincoln Highway Arch in Omaha,

an old Model-T somewhere in Iowa,

and a map of the Great Platte river Road.

I could show you more,
but then that would just spoil the fun.

You'll just have to see it for yourself.

Sufice to say,
"It's Worth the Trip."

Meanwhile, back at the Ranch,
or should I say station
a feed was prepared and sent via satellite
to CNN for broadcast later that evening.

Here's a shot of Ronnie, the director,
on the right and and Babs her right hand man,
or should I say woman on the left.

Note Babs's festive pumpkin Vest.

Couldn't have done it without you!!

Thanks for all your help
and the wonderful behind the scenes tour.
