A Celestial Lincoln

Kids,

It's only 45 miles from Cheyenne to Laramie.

Shouldn't take more than an hour...Right??

Not hardly...

The first stop was

Corlett,

followed by Borie,

and finally Otto,
all old Union Pacific railroad stops.

This is an original 1915 section of
The Lincoln Highway near Otto.

Pronounced: O-Toe,
it comes from the Otto Indians
who once lived in the area.

Then there's Granite Canyon,

or should I say a Post Office
with Granite Canyon on the side.

The postmaster was quite friendly
and even made a $20 donation to the Gas Fund.

Here's Loula and Kate, her granddaughter with Mr. Lincoln.

Next is the booming metropolis of Buford,
Population 2.

This is Don, the Mayor and Fire Chief.

Several miles down the road is Tree Rock,

a rather unusual tree growing out of a rock.

Thus the name Tree Rock.

Back in the late 1800's,
it was a water stop on the Union Pacific
and the tracks ran right next to it.

The line was later abandon
and The Lincoln Highway was
built on the old roadbed.

When I finally arrived,
it was dusk and getting dark fast.

Initially, I was dissapointed,
thinking I'd have to back track
and reshoot it again in the morning.

But as you can see,

the shot turned out just fine.

So now on to Laramie, right?

Unfortunately,
the best was yet to come,
and daylight was a thing of the past.

What to do, what to do??

Press forward, young man.

I stopped at the Ames Monument
on the outside chance I could sneek a shot.

Not bad, under the circumstances.

More on this later...

Then finally,
I reached the Holy Grail...

The Lincoln Statue on Sherman Hill,
Highest Point on The Lincoln Highway,
8700 feet plus or minus.

Hard to believe,
but it was way too dark to get a normal shot,
but then who said anything about Normal.

Check this out...

A Celestial Lincoln!!!
