The Golden Spike, Revisited
It was Sunday the 16th,
I was up around 10:00 and began to write in my journal
and tidy up my notes from the past several weeks.
Apparently I lost track of time,
because when I looked at the clock it was 1:30.
I quickly gathered up my stuff,
hopped in the Ranger
and was off to Promontory.
When I arrived it was around 2:30 or 3:00,
instead of 4 like last time.
They close at 4:30.
The light was much better,
although you had to be quick.
Ranger Rick grabbed the "Golden Spike"
and we were off to the races.
So here's how it went...

I took one of Ranger Rick

and he took one of me.

Then I took one of him...

and again, he took one of me.
I think they turned out much better...
In case you were wondering...
I'm standing on the Laurel Tie ,
which was of course,
the "Last Tie"
and the tie that accepted the
"Golden Spike".

Ranger Rick went inside to warm his hands
and I snapped this shot.
It is of course,
the First time in History
"The Golden Spike",
Mr. Lincoln,
"The Laurel Tie",
and
Yours Truly
come together to Commemorate
the completion of the Nation's
First Transcontinental Railroad
on May 10, 1869.

Thus accomplishing the ultimate goal of Mr. Lincoln:
Binding together the

"Union" and the "Pacific"
to form
"One Nation"
"...of the People, by the People, and for the People."
Considered at the time to be
"The Greatest Achievement known to Man".

Look Familiar???
The Lincoln Highway
"The Greatest Memorial in the World"

"A Fitting Monument"
To one with the Vision to Link,
"East with West"
the
"Union with the Pacific".
