The Big Day

Kids,

Well, the "Big Day" finally arrived.

I called Charlie at the Standard-Examiner
and KSL-TV in Salt Lake with the News.

At 3pm I was on the Road Again...

It took all morning and then some,
but come 3pm I was suited up
and ready to go.

Charlie, had been there and gone.

I left the hood off for the TV Cameras,
then fired up the Ole Girl
and took up proper position
in front of Dean's Automotive.

She purred like a kitten.

It was snowing but what did we care,
two long weeks of painstaking labor
coupled with lots of tender loving care
was finally coming to a conclusion.

I rallied the troops and the photo shoot began.

Remember Gary??

His contibution totaled a little over $600.

I started the "Signing of the Head Gasket" with him.

He was quoted in the Standard-Examiner the next day saying,
"It was the right thing to do."

Then finally,
The Gangs all Here.

Starting on the left,
there's Roman holding one of the old pistons.
He provided expert advice
and most of the tools necessary to get the job done.

Sometimes I'd forget to return a tool and you'd see him
wandering around aimlessly trying to remember where he left it,
only to remember there was a "Church Mouse" in the House.

That's a rhyme in case you didn't notice.

Then there's Rick with one of the cylinder sleeves.

He too provided expert advice and a few specialty tools,
including a special cut off 3/4 wrench
for the Rocker Arms and Exhaust Manifold.

When I could, I'd try and steal his creeper for the afternoon.

Next is Kelly,

What can you say about Kelly???

He greeted me with open arms and never looked back.

He holds one of the two signed Head Gaskets
to be framed and hung in a place of Honor
at sometime in the future.

On my first night in Ogden,
he fliped me the keys to Ford Ranger
and I've had wheels ever since.

His contribution is too large to Quantify.

Without him all else would not and could not have happened.

Then there's Ty,
He IS the Man...

If it weren't for his 40 years of experience
I'd still be trying to get the Oil Pan off,
not to mention push the sleeves into place.

Between He and Kelly,
they ate over 20 hours of labor @ $60 per.

Here's another shot of Ty in his civies.

By the time all the excitment was over it was dark,
not to mention New Years Eve.

We said our Goodbyes,
then I fired the "Old Girl" up one more time
and headed back to Station Four
to record the 10 o'clock News.
