Hook Number 2
New Years Eve came and went without incident.
On New Years day KSL called,
said they were going to do an expanded story
for the 6 o'clock News.
They wanted me to be sure and stop
by the studio when I got to Salt Lake.

I said goodbye to B-Shift
and was on my way to Salt Lake and TV Stardom.
The round tin I'm holding represents my
Christmas in Ogden.
It contained 3 varieties of Pop Corn
and a Puzzle received at the station
from a mysterious stranger on Christmas Eve.
The fellows all signed the lid,
it will be on display at the Museum.
So, finally off we go...
Not 10 miles down I-15 trouble begins,
the oil pressure gauge begins to act funny.
When it finally went to Zero,
I knew I was in trouble.
I pulled off at the Kaysville Exit
and was able to find a spot
in a local car dealer's lot.
I called the Factory Service Tech.
for Waukesha at home.
Under the circumstances,
What could I do???.
"Hello, is this Brett's Towing??"
The dispatcher said she'd have someone
there in less than 30 minutes.
Pretty good service don't you think??
Remember it's New Years Day.
Well, I suppose it was too good to be true,
the dispatcher called back and said
they had another pick up.
It would be at least an hour.
My response, "You better hurry,
I might be frozen solid by the time he arrives."
Well, the Gods were smiling because
the driver couldn't find his tow,

I called Kelly, he wasn't home...
Go figure,
he was visiting with family and
watching Football Games like everyone
else on New Years Day.
I called Allen, his wrecker driver.
He met me at the garage.

Here's Eric, the driver and his wonder dog "Spot".
Well, not really...it was Loomis.
We took this shot, then he was off in the night.
The next morning, everyone was in shock...
What could have gone wrong???
I pulled the sending unit in hopes it was the culprit,
then fired her up with a mechanical gauge instead.
Boom, 35 psi.
It must be the sending unit, but wait,
there's a strange ticking noise
coming from the oil pan.
I had everybody and their brother
crawl under the truck for a listen.
Well maybe...
Was it me or was there really a problem.
What to do, what to do??
I called the chief mechanic for Maxim Fire Engines
and held the phone up to the oil pan.
You're right it doesn't sound normal,
but I can't quite put my finger on it.
I called two other people knowledgeable
in engine repair and held the phone to the pan.
Again, well maybe...
but nothing definitive.
I checked the sending unit
and found a little piece of crud.
Boom, 35 psi...
Maybe I was hearing things??
Just to be sure,
I took the truck out for spin
around the parking lot.
Around and around we go...
where it stops nobody knows.
After about 5 minutes or so,
the guage went to Zero - Again!!!
Now What???
Back inside I took out the sending unit
and checked for more crud.
Nothing to speak of,
so I fired her up without the sending unit.
15 seconds later there was
half a quart of oil on the floor.
Plenty of oil pressure here...

But just to be sure,
I bought a new sending unit...
Boom, 35 psi.
Once more I listened,
thinking I should drop the pan,
but the sound was gone.
Go figure...
Well, maybe we dodged a bullet.
