It appears only 14 Lincoln Highway "Print Ads" were produced.
All twelve of the
1940 "Ad Slicks" are original and came from the files
of Benton & Bowles Advertising Agency in New York City.
They are the only known copies.
The last "Print Ads"
are from the San Francisco Examiner
and ran on January 11th and December 27th in 1941.
Apparently there were no Ads placed in 1942.
While it seems
strange for such huge gaps
in frequency and placement,
searches in the San Francisco Examiner &
Los Angeles Times reveal this to be the case.
The "Trade Ads" from
Progressive Grocer and Syndicate Store Merchandiser
discribe a "Big Newspaper Campaign" every week,
PLUS a "Smashing magazine campaign to big volume shoe polish usuers"
PLUS "Big full color ads in "American Weekly" and "This Week"."
"American Weekly" and
"This Week" were both Sunday Magazine inserts in
big city papers and produced by the Hearst Corporation and United
Newspapers.
However, after rather extensive searches in both no Ads have been found.
The "Print Ads"
feature the weekly "Hollywood Star" with Theme
and appeared in newspapers across the Country.
