With the clock ticking
and no luck raising the necessary funds
it looked like the money
For over a month,
I tried to raise

Stopped at City Hall and was soon
overwhelmed by these students
from the local school.

came about through spontaneous combustion
during a test run of the fire truck.
As we raised the American Flag the owner said,
"What you really need is a Lincoln Highway Flag."
Only trouble is...they don't grow on trees,
so less than a week later...the design was done,
the fabric cut...and my friend did the rest.

was the call...
so after a quick two week reconfiguration,
"Spirit of the Lincoln Way"
was off to Washington, DC.

was an unexpected surprise
and would provide the perfect opportunity
to start in front of the Lincoln Memorial,
but after repeated attempts through official channels
ended in failure.

so after 12 hours on the road it was
a wonderful backdrop as the evening sun broke
through the clouds and illuminated
the capital dome.

And then an amazing thing happened...
The American Spirit began to stir,
and then suddenly...just like that,
all the cogs in the Universe lined up.
After several hours...photos were taken,
visits were made and respects were paid
as the "Spirit of Lincoln" was off
to the next stop and the trip of a lifetime.

in front of the White House,
was the starting point for the first
Army Transcontinental Motor Transport Convoy
to travel across the Continent on the Lincoln Highway in 1919
and made the perfect place to commemorate their journey
and head for Times Square in New York City,
the start of The Lincoln Highway.

was the call...as the manager of this McDonald's
outside Baltimore requested help fixing his flagpole.
80 feet up it was...so cast your fears aside,
there was work to do.
An hour or so later it was off for the Big Apple,
but not before a small donation of McDonald Bucks,
a Double Cheeseburger mustard only,
and of course...the flags for display at the Museum.
